Collaborating closely with the talented architect David Alsfine on a brand-new build, we embarked on a two-year journey to create an understated yet luxurious home for a modern family. This project was a testament to meticulous planning and design, where every inch of the home was thoughtfully considered, from conceptualization to the final touches of decoration, ensuring it mirrored the client's exquisite aesthetic. The client approached me with a distinct and clear vision for her home, encapsulated in the guiding principle of 'barefoot luxury.' Our initial meetings were dedicated to conceptualizing the house, deeply understanding this vision and how it could translate into the space's architectural elements, landscaping, color palette, and overall ambiance. My challenge was to dissect and fully grasp the essence of 'barefoot luxury,' ensuring the final home embodied this concept in every aspect. Drawing inspiration from two lodges the client visited, which encapsulated the life and lifestyle she aspired to for her family, I embarked on an exhaustive search. I reviewed hundreds of fabrics, furniture types, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and cabinets, relying on my knowledge of which fabric houses specialized in certain styles. This expertise allowed me to pinpoint exactly where to find the materials that would seamlessly align with her vision. After narrowing down the choices, I presented them to the client for feedback. If necessary, the process involved revisiting selections until everything was perfect. The client and I worked hand in hand, examining fabrics, furniture, and more, to ensure every element contributed to the atmosphere of relaxed, effortless luxury she dreamed of for her home.
